Fred Hartman Bridge
Named after Fred Hartman, a former editor and publisher of the Baytown Sun, the Fred Hartman Bridge (or Baytown Bridge) is a unique cable-stayed bridge with 45-story double-diamond towers that spans the Houston Ship Channel and connects State Highway 146 between Baytown and La Porte. With a span of 2,475 feet (eight football fields), the bright allows eight lanes of traffic to pass 175 feet above the Houston Ship Channel. With its opening in 1995, it replaced a restrictive tunnel under the Houston Ship Channel and became a signature aesthetic feature.
