JPMorgan Chase Building - 712 Main Street
Located at 712 Main Street, the JPMorgan Chase Building is one of Houston’s most beautiful nighttime buildings. An explosion of skyward Art Deco glory that appears halfway between a wedding cake and a medieval castle, the JP Morgan Chase Building, formerly the Gulf Oil headquarters, was commissioned by Jesse H. Jones, one of the city’ architectural juggernauts. Although it has a Gothic design on the outside, the building’s lobby is outfitted in patterned marble and Art Deco details. Until 1963, this building was the tallest in Houston and even taller when it was topped by a giant illuminated rotating Gulf logo.
