Allen’s Landing
A historic park that truly defines the city, Allen’s Landing has been described as “Houston’s Plymouth Rock” as it was here in 1836 that August Chapman and John Kirby Allen stepped ashore and claimed Houston as their own. At the confluence of Buffalo and White Oak Bayous, the site became Houston’s first port, a thriving commercial hub that today symbolizes the city’s entrepreneurial spirit. With its entry plaza, historic wharf and hike and bike trails, Allen’s Landing has become an active and vibrant destination along downtown’s waterfront. Central to Allen’s Landing is the Sunset Coffee Building, one of the few remaining industrial buildings on Buffalo Bayou and a contributing structure in Downtown Houston’s Historic District.
