Chevron Houston Marathon

Thousands of runners and spectators converge every January for the annual Chevron Houston Marathon, making it the city’s largest single-day sporting event. The flat and fast course combined with the cool but not cold winter weather makes this a favorite qualifier for the prestigious Boston Marathon so the race is limited to 22,000 participants between the marathon and half marathon. Attracting 5K, half marathon and marathon participants from throughout the United States and more than 30 countries, the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon are in a loop around the city of Houston with very few ascents. Plus, the race is a festive experience with runners being cheered on by 200,000 onlookers and numerous entertainers, from jazz bands to belly dancers and Elvis impersonators. Participants also can be active fundraisers for one of 35 official charities like Texas Children’s Hospital, the AIDS Foundation Houston and the American Red Cross by entering the Run for a Reason program.
