National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI)

The National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) is a unique research consortium that partners NASA with more than 70 agencies, universities and institutions that collaborate to develop countermeasures to the health-related problems and physical and psychological challenges men and women face on long-duration space missions. Established in 1997, NSBRI shares the BioScience Research Collaborative at the Texas Medical Center with Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Space Medicine. NSBRI’s research addresses the technologies required to enable and enhance exploration, in particular those that provide medical monitoring, diagnosis and treatment in the extreme environments that are faced during exploration missions.
