Mardi Gras

The largest in the state, Mardi Gras! Galveston does the traditional pre-Lent festival of feasting and merrymaking up right and has since 1867. In its modern incarnation, Galveston Island has been celebrating Mardi Gras with more than 3 million beads, parades, headliner performances, family events and more for hundreds of thousands of locals and visitors each year since 1985 thanks to Galveston-born preservationist and developer George P. Mitchell.
