Japan Festival - Mary Gibbs and Jesse H. Jones Reflection Pool
One of the largest Japanese festivals in the United States, Houston’s Japan Festival is hosted by the Japan-America Society of Houston each year in April. Attracting nearly 22,000 visitors in a single weekend, the Japan Festival aims to educate Houstonians about the fundamental interests and aspects of Japan through various themes each year. Measuring 740 feet long and 80 feet wide, the Mary Gibbs and Jesse H. Jones Reflection Pool is one of the most popular features in Hermann Park. Its sculpted stone edges create an attractive border for the pool while its black bottom offers maximum reflection for passersby. Both sides of the pool are lined with beautiful mature live oak trees. Located north of McGovern Lake, the picturesque Lake Overlook and Molly Ann Smith Plaza offer picnic areas on a raised lawn with shaded seating and playful interactive fountains for children to enjoy.
