2014 Commencement - Undergraduate Convocation at Rice University

Rice University’s recent growth in enrollment was making the unified commencement ceremony unbelievably long. To address this problem, the 101st Commencement, in May 2014, Rice University split the proceedings into a set of five distinct events: a plenary session on Saturday morning for the conferring of degrees and a set of four smaller ceremonies at which students are recognized individually. The plenary commencement is held on Saturday morning on the Academic Quadrangle and is attended by all faculty members and graduates. The ceremony featured a full academic procession and recession, the conferring of degrees, the Commencement Speaker’s address, presentation of several awards and brief remarks by other officials.
