St. Martin's Episcopal Church
Now the largest Episcopal Church in North America, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church was founded in 1952 and notably has former president George H.W. Bush and first lady Barbara Bush in its membership. Modeled after the 1283 Gothic cathedral of St. Elizabeth’s in Marburg, Germany, its interior was inspired by a 1260 cathedral in Chartres, France. Since the parishioners wanted the church to reflect their traditional spirit, worship and music, the church has a one-of-a-kind 4,600-pipe symphonic organ that was made in the American Romantic Style by the Schoenstein Pipe Organ Company of San Francisco. Other features include beautifully handcarved white-oak liturgical millwork and 36 custom-designed, hand-blown stained-glass windows that depict key religious figures and tell more than 200 Bible stories.
