Main Street Viaduct
A concrete arch bridge by the University of Houston-Downtown, the Main Street Viaduct spans Buffalo Bayou at Main Street and is a convenient daily route for thousands of Houstonians. Now a seemingly ordinary bridge, when built in 1913, it was considered an engineering feat as the largest single-arch concrete span in Texas. Also of note, the UH Downtown METRORail Station is located on top of the Main Street viaduct, which means it has an extremely narrow platform and so the ticket vending machines are actually on the property of the university campus.
