The Strand Historic District

A National Historic Landmark District in Downtown Galveston, the Strand Historic District is home to mainly Victorian-era buildings that now feature an array of restaurants, antique stores and specialty shops. A major tourist attraction for Galveston Island, The Strand is the location of popular seasonal festivals and widely considered the island’s shopping and entertainment center. Situated on a street named Avenue B, “The Strand” refers to the entire five-block business district adjacent to the city’s main wharf.
