City Hall with Wells Fargo and One Shell Plaza
A world-class metropolis, Houston stands tall as the fourth most populous city in the country and the largest in Texas and the entire southern region. Known for being home to strong business and cultural communities, Downtown Houston is the city’s central business district where many prominent companies have installed their headquarters. Moreover, the downtown area features a stunning collection of historic and modern skyscrapers that make up one of the largest skylines in the United States, blending iconic architecture with thoughtful urban planning and green spaces and echoing the hardworking energy and innovation of those who call Houston home. Constructed in 1938–39, the Houston City Hall building is home to Houston’s city government. Surrounded by Downtown Houston’s skyscrapers and flanked by Tranquillity Park and the Houston Public Library, the simply designed structure features classic construction details. Completed in 1971, One Shell Plaza is a 50-story office tower located in the heart of downtown central business district. The travertine-clad tower tapers upward from a landscaped marble plaza with a series of closely spaced columns that frame the structure, creating the impression of a gently undulating exterior wall. Formerly the Allied Bank Plaza and First Interstate Bank Plaza, the Wells Fargo Plaza is a skyscraper at 1000 Louisiana Street in Downtown Houston. Currently the 16th tallest building in the country, Wells Fargo Plaza is the second tallest in Houston.
