Dean’s Downtown
Dean’s Downtown is a bar with an eclectic vibe that’s ever-so-cool with live music, an ever-present flock of local artists and amazing architectural history. When its building was originally built in 1893 as the Kiam building, it housed a department store as was the most electrified building in the country—on DC power. In the last 120 years, it has life as two different department stores and clothing and shoe stores. The building still houses the third oldest electric elevator in the country. In 1999, it was turned into bar called Dean’s Credit Clothing, which lasted five years until becoming Dean’s Downtown. Of note, the original hardwood floors are still here, and it has struck up a great love affair with the more funky Houston locals.
