William P. Hobby Airport
Located just seven miles from Downtown Houston, William P. Hobby Airport is Houston’s oldest commercial airport, having been established as the Houston Municipal Airport in 1937. Named to honor of ex-governor and Houston Post owner William P. Hobby, the airport dominated Houston’s air travel until the opening of the Bush Intercontinental Airport in 1969. With four runways, Hobby now is a primary domestic hub for Southwest Airlines and an international gateway to Mexico, Central and South America since 2015. The airport’s original Art Deco terminal building now houses the 1940 Air Terminal Museum.
