Heritage Plaza
The broad shoulders and perfect location of Heritage Plaza, one of Houston’s landmark buildings, puts it at the center of the best views of the city skyline. Completed in early 1987 in the midst of the collapse of the Texas real estate, banking and oil industries in the 1980s, the building was the newest major skyscraper in Houston for nearly 15 years until the construction of 1500 Louisiana Street in 2002. Well known because of its central location in the business district skyline, Heritage Plaza features stepped granite on the top that resembles a Mayan pyramid, which was inspired by the architect’s visit to the Mexican Yucatán Peninsula, while the crown of the building resembles a bald eagle spreading its wings.
