Trail Riders

The appearance of Trail Riders in Houston via 13 different routes signals the start of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as they merge via many routes into Memorial Park to make camp for the night. The following morning, the riders embark on the grand Downtown Rodeo Parade down Texas Avenue. The Trail Riders event is held in remembrance that Texas was once a land of sparse, outlying settlements connected only by well-trodden trails made by the horse, mule or oxen power of the early settlers. The groups of riders that converge on Houston today represent these settlers who still combine their leadership and resources to bring their group across many miles.
