Tie-Down Roping

Many of the events at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo have a place in history as a remembrance of the Wild West. The Tie-Down Roping event demonstrates the necessary skill of roping an injured or sick calf to immobilize it so they could bring it back to health. The ranch hands of yesteryear took great pride in how fast they could get the calves tied up and on their back, which is remembered in this competition for modern audiences.
