Constellation Program
A hub of human spaceflight activity for more than half a century, NASA’s Johnson Space Center is home to the country’s astronaut corps, the International Space Station mission operations, the Orion Program and all kinds of future space developments. The Johnson Space Center is pivotal role in enhancing scientific and technological knowledge to benefit all of humankind. The Constellation Program (abbreviated CxP) is a human spaceflight program within NASA. The goals of CxP are to gain significant experience in operating away from Earth’s environment, developing technologies needed for opening the space frontier and conducting fundamental science. The original components of Constellation include the development of spacecraft and booster vehicles that would replace the Space Shuttle sending astronauts to the Moon and to Mars. The development of other spacecraft for use under Constellation, such as the Orion crew capsule, the Earth Departure Stage and the Altair Lunar Lander.
