Space Center Houston - Rocket Park
The official visitors center for NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Space Center Houston is the only place on earth where guests take an out-of-this-world journey through human adventures in space with a multitude of permanent exhibits, attractions and theaters. Located between Space Center Houston and the main entrance to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Rocket Park is littered with space travel history. These sleeping giants of space exploration are on display just south of Space City and allow guests to have the pleasure of viewing rockets used in NASA missions during the 1960s and ’70s. Three of the rockets—Little Joe II, Mercury; Redstone and the Gemini–Titant—have been fully restored and are on display just outside Johnson Space Center. From August 1963 to January 1966, five unmanned test flights were conducted using Little Joe II rockets at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. These tests helped qualify the Apollo launch escape system and the command module’s capability to touch down on land.
