Enterprise Plaza with CenterPoint Energy Tower - Smith a Crossing Lamar Street
A 55-story skyscraper in the heart of Houston’s energy and financial corridor in Downtown Houston, Enterprise Plaza (also 1100 Louisiana) was developed in 1980 by real estate investor Hines. Rising from a grand plaza that occupies almost a quarter of the block, the tower was the tallest building in Texas until 1982 when the JPMorgan Chase Tower surpassed it. Clad in polished Spanish Rose granite with rose-colored windows, the building’s south and east curtainwall features a series of large stepped bays at the top of the building. Home to the headquarters of CenterPoint Energy, the CenterPoint Energy Tower is the epitome of what can be achieved with imagination and ingenuity. What began as a relatively standard skyscraper, an energy-efficient but boring block of black glass, the building was transformed into a Houston landmark in 1996 by the architectural firm of DMJM Keating when it added a six-story “top hat” with a circular hole in its roof that becomes illuminated at night. Other significant exterior architectural elements include a light tower, ground-level pyramid skylights, a stainless-steel entry element while glass rails, cladding and custom light fixtures enhance the lobby.
