Camel Races

The Bayou City’s premier horse racing track, Sam Houston Race Park, features Thoroughbred and American Quarter Horse racing. Widely considered the fastest growing race track in America, Sam Houston Race Park hosts Thoroughbred racing from late January through early March and American Quarter Horse racing from early March through mid-May. The rest of the year the park is open for simulcast racing happening around the United States and is available as a concert and private events venue. Known for hosting several fun and unusual activities, Houston is home to the popular annual Camel and Ostrich races at Sam Houston Race Park. Unpredictable and exciting, the races feature four camels and five ostriches charging approximately 100 yards in between live Thoroughbred horse races.
