Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field
Rice University benefited from a generous donation from the Ley family in the summer of 2002 to resurface the university’s track, which is now officially named the Wendel D. Ley Track. Located on one of the university’s more important historical sites, the track was built at the old Rice Stadium, the Owls’ football home through 1949, and uses part of the old grandstand. The stadium played host to numerous Southwest Conference Track and Field Championships, but as the women’s soccer program was added in 2000, changes were made and a first-class soccer field was constructed in the existing track infield, relocating new and improved jump and throw areas.
