M.D. Anderson Memorial Library
Located on the main campus of the University of Houston, the M.D. Anderson Memorial Library is the largest and most centrally located library in the UH Libraries system. Originally built in 1950, the library has undergone three major additions: the Blue Wing in 1968, the Brown Wing in 1977 and the Gold Wing in 2005. The most recent expansion include a major renovation of the library, which added more space to allow the collection to grow. An academic library, the University of Houston Libraries system also serves the general public as well as students and faculty, representing a 48-percent increase. The newest addition will allow growth in the collection from the current 1.6 million volumes to an estimated 2.4 million. The number of individual study spaces increased from 880 to approximately 2,630. The total number of individual computer workstations grew from 144 to 350.
