Sam Houston Park
Created as the city’s first park in 1900 when Mayor Sam Brashier purchased the Kellem-Noble land and house on the edge of town, the 19-acre Sam Houston Park has been the home of The Heritage Society since 1954. The park now features eight historic structures, including a log cabin and St. John Church, which dates back as far as 1823. Surrounded by the modern skyscrapers, Sam Houston Park is a proud oasis of living history and wide-open greenness amid the city’s modern monuments to corporate and civic institutions.
