Calpine Center
At 33 floors, the Calpine Center is a postmodern skyscraper in Downtown Houston that ranks 30th tallest in the city. Serving as the world headquarters of Calpine Corporation, the 33-story is flat on one side while featuring a long curve on the other. JONES PLAZA Jones Plaza has a long history dating to its construction in 1966 as Downtown Houston’s outdoor centerpiece at the heart of the Houston Theater District. The one-square-block plaza across from Jones Hall for the Performing Arts and The Alley Theatre is bounded on the north and south by Texas and Capitol Avenues and on the east and west by Louisiana and Smith Streets. As always, visitors enjoy five shade-providing canopies, a fountain and Mexican sycamore trees while recent renovations added pedestrian ramps, a permanent outdoor stage and concession facilities.
